We have been military family for the last 11 years. My husband deploys alot. Our boys are 10 and 5. Lately the deployments my husband goes on have really been affecting the kids. My older son becomes closed and often over sensitive . My younger son shows his anger through unprovoked tantrums.Really screaming for over hour an. Then becoming clingy. I have taken them to a spe******t but that seems not to help at all. So if any parents have some good solid ideas of things they have used to ease separation please share. Thank You!

Does your post offer any classes for the children to sit in on in helping them deal with their emotions? I know where we live they have like little work shops for the kids (for each age bracket) to help them cope while their parent is deployed. Is any of their friends parents deployed b/c sometimes that helps knowing someone else is going through what they are!

This is not my post, but I put up a described a similar situation in my post. Thanks for the idea to search for resources on base for families. I did not know that they had such programs. I will definitely use this information in the future. Thanks.

Kristen,
My husband just joined to Army and will be going off to boot camp and AIT soon. I am really clueless to all things military and was wondering how often your husband gets deployed. I know each soldier is different, but is the family allowed to go with him to certain places? Your children are school-aged so I'm sure that gives them more to keep their mind off of dad being away. How did you deal with dad's absence when your children were younger? Any help or advice would be much appreciated, thanks. |
